Samples of Child Welfare Vignettes

Our video library is 12 years deep and growing. These samples offer a glimpse at the types of case studies, processes, and perspectives that have resulted from years of work in Child and Family Welfare arenas.

Family In Crisis: The Pitcocks

On an evening in March 2001, we followed Child Protective Services on a response call to an investigation of alleged physical abuse. This series documents the removal of children from their home, the court hearings, foster care, and counseling. Originally aired in an abbreviated form on national TV, the documentary case study will be available as a 4-DVD set exclusively through calamariproductions.com.

Calamari is the only producer of documentary programming from within the otherwise closed confines of our juvenile justice and child welfare arenas.

Teen Pregnancy: DeLena's Perspective

There's a lot of talk about teen pregnancy and reproductive responsibility these days, but nothing demonstrates the impact personal choices have on our lives, for years to come, more than the perspective teen mothers.

Calamari has followed the lives of several teen mothers as they struggle to overcome the challenges that come with parenting at such an early age.

Juvenile & Family Court Judges Discuss the Job

No one in the system understands the challenge of helping at-risk kids and families better than the judges whose job it is to help put these lives back on a positive track. This sample of interviews represents several of the judges with whom Calamari has filmed over the years.

In The Child's Best Interest: Raymond

An excerpt from our award-winning documentary about children and families in the Child Welfare system.

The Foster Care Files: DeLena

DeLena seemed to be the picture of success in the foster care system. After a long road through many foster homes and a history of neglect and abuse, DeLena found solace in a wonderful foster home. But as with many kids who grow up without consistent familial support, DeLena still had personal challenges to overcome.

This excerpt from our 7-year coverage of DeLena's case captures a time when she strayed from the right path and found her case transferred from family court to delinquency court, a phenomenon all to common with at-risk kids.
